Happy Easter, He is Risen!!
Jesus's Resurrection:
- Confirms that everything He taught about Himself was true.
- Confirms what He claimed to do for us.
- Gives us hope in life and death.
- Reminds us that following Him is the only wise choice.
Praise God!
On Maundy Thursday, we remember Jesus' last supper with His disciples and the promises He made that changed everything.
"When the hour came, Jesus and his apostles reclined at the table. And he said to them, “I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer. For I tell you, I will not eat it again until it finds fulfillment in the kingdom of God.” After taking the cup, he gave thanks and said, “Take this and divide it among you. For I tell you I will not drink again from the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.” And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it,and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you."
It's the middle of Holy Week, when we observe the days leading up to crucifixion, death, and glorious resurrection of Jesus Christ.
We are reminded this week of the incredible sacrifice Jesus made that ultimately conquered death and paid the penalty for our sins- and we invite you and your family to join with us in celebrating this joyous news on Sunday!
Our 10:30 worship service will be followed by a delicious potluck lunch, and we would love for you to join us!

How do you deal with anger? Anger can cause a lot of destruction, but it doesn’t have to.
Last Sunday we saw how David got angry over personal insult and stress, and it led to overreaction and unwise judgement.
What helped David steer clear of sinful anger? Time, community, perspective, and patience.
We can rely on the promise that God will deliver justice. In the meantime, we have been called to love and forgive!

How do you handle stress?
Last Sunday, we saw how David handled stress while being pursued by Saul, and it did not always go well. We saw David sinfully lying and taking matters into his own hands.
However, the story doesn't end there. David made things right by repenting, waiting on God, and remembering his mission.
When we rely on God instead of ourselves, we are better equipped for the stress and trials of life!
Last Sunday we celebrated Easter- a time of reflection on Jesus’ resurrection and why it is significant for our lives today.
We saw that the resurrection confirms everything Jesus claimed about himself and everything He said He would do for us. It gives us hope in both life and death. It reminds us that following Jesus is the only wise choice.
Because of the resurrection, we can hold fast to the promise that one day this life will be made right!

This past Sunday we started off our "Tale of Two Kings" series by taking a look at the circumstances that led King Saul to lose his throne. We see that Saul chose comfort and convenience over God’s mission, feared man more than he feared God, and minimized his sin instead of confessing it. Through it all, Saul lied, shifted blame, rationalized, defended, and feigned repentance.
The prophet Samuel's advice to Saul is straightforward. Repent. Stop compromising. Receive God's pardon.
Where have you been tempted to compromise your faith in your own life?
In the final week of our "Tighten the Knot" sermon series, we looked at common lies we need to avoid believing about marriage. These lies include the lie of finding "the ‘One’", that the grass is "greener" in other relationships, that chemistry is more valuable than character, that there are endless do-overs, that marriage can be an idol, that marriage is meant to make you happy, and that your marriage can't be saved.
The truth is, both singleness and marriage are gifts from God. While the purpose of marriage is not happiness, it IS holiness. Why is this good news? Because holiness leads to soul level contentment and joy!
You don't need to be a Bible scholar to teach the Bible.
In week 3 of our "Tighten the Knot" series on marriage, we looked at 2 Timothy 3:14-17 to see what the Bible has to say about parenting. We see that 3 of the "traps" parents fall into are those of decision vs. discipleship, isolation vs. participation, and self sacrifice vs. self fulfillment.
Parents cannot force their children to follow Jesus, but they are called to spiritually train them by being an example of faith, a trainer of God's Word, and a sender of disciples!
Conflict is inevitable. What's important is how you handle it!
In week two of our sermon series focused on marriage, we looked at how to communicate in a God honoring way. We see in Ephesians 4:25-32 the importance of being honest, rejecting sinful anger, knowing your spouse, and remember your position as one who has been forgiven by Christ.
While conflict is unavoidable, we can manage it well because of Jesus' finished work on the cross!
What is the context of Biblical marriage? Mutual submission!
Today we dove into Ephesians 5 to start off a new series all about marriage. The two roles within marriage, headship and submission, are often misunderstood. However, the Bible makes it clear that submission does not mean unconditional obedience to a dominant husband who makes every decision. Instead, submission is an invitation to be like Christ. In the same way, husbands are called to lead by loving reassuringly, sacrificially, exclusively, and steadfastly.
The relationship between husband and wife should reflect Jesus and the Church!
Following Jesus without the church body is not an option that it available to us.
In Romans 16, we get a glimpse of the diversity of the early church- as well as a warning to guard against false teachings that divide us! Teachings that reject Biblical truths, make the Gospel about something other than Jesus, or avoid the controversial teachings of Christ put up obstacles that keep us from knowing Jesus fully.
Instead, we should acknowledge the truths about living in the Body of Christ; that loving others in unity is essential, we will always need connection with each other, and every member is a minister!

Jesus did not try to accommodate people with a softer message with no conviction. In fact, without the revelation of our need for a Savior, our eyes can't be opened to the Gospel message!
Much like parables, the Gospel must be revealed to those who hear it. We are not meant to be judges of the hearts of others, deciding who the Holy Spirit will reveal the Gospel message to or not.
At the start of a brand new year, how is God compelling you to step out of your comfort zone and share with others?

Why does God call us to go all in with Him? Because He is worth it. He is worth it, and we need Him.
In Matthew 1:18-25, we read about Joseph's role in the birth of Jesus, and his apprehensions. Marrying Mary meant facing the disdain of the world, giving up control, denying his flesh, and repenting of his sin.
Despite these, Joseph went all in with God. His courageousness was rooted in the truths of God's character- He is a promise keeper and sovereign creator! How is God calling you to be courageous this week?
Join us this Christmas as we study several uncommon characters in the Christmas story! You've certainly heard of Jesus, Mary, and the angels but what about other inconspicuous characters? What can we learn from their stories about God's entrance into human history through Jesus?

How easy it is for us to destroy the work of God over non-essential issues. How much stronger we are when we are united!
In Romans 14-15:13, Paul discusses ways to handle conflict and division within the church. How do we do this well? By fighting for unity, avoiding uniformity, withholding judgement, prioritizing spiritual health over our freedom, being open to our conscience being stretched, and prioritizing mission.
Our responsibility towards the government as Christians can be a difficult conversation to have. However, we must remember that ultimately, God is in control!
Paul shows us in Romans 13 that we are called to respect our governing bodies, submit to their authority, and to serve. At the same time, the government is called to demonstrate benevolent leadership and provide reasonable protection to the governed.
While we show respect to our leaders here on Earth, we must remember that our allegiance to God comes first. Do you want to see God change the world? It starts with submission to Him and His Word!
Too often we think that sanctification comes from DOING good things for Jesus- when in reality, putting intimacy before activity is when that activity becomes truly fruitful!
How do we do this well? By setting aside specific time to be with Jesus each day- reading from scripture and praying.
Will you join us in a challenge? Take at least 20 minutes each day for the next 30 days to have an intimate time with Jesus. While we will face resistance, that time will be used mightily!
Where are you tempted to be someone you're not?
As we continue our study of Romans, we see 5 distinct marks of Christian love. Christian love is authentic, uncompromising, familial, serving, and forgiving.
How do we do this well? We need to start with having a right view of ourselves- which leads us to relying on the truth of the Gospel and on God's justice!
As followers of Christ, we have spiritual gifts that we are called to use to build up the Church.
Paul shows us in the beginning of Romans chapter 12 that a healthy Church is one that knows who they are, who they belong to, and how they are gifted.
Not all spiritual gifts are the same. In fact, when our different gifts work in harmony, the Church is unified as the Body of Christ!

God's ways are beyond our human comprehension, but we are assured that in every circumstance He is in control and He works all things for the good of those who love Him.
In these passages, Paul defines worship as a way of life- marked by Scripture, full devotion, self denial, logic, grace, and awe of God. When we renew our mind by filling it with the truths of Scripture instead of values of the world, the result is an all-encompassing and continuous transformation!
How powerful this truth is!
In Romans 11, we see how God's promises have not failed. He has preserved a remnant of His people, and isn’t done with them yet!
This chapter points us to the truth that God still has future plans for His people. He is faithful, and His Word is true. Because of this, we can find hope in our present!
This is one of the 6 "Gospel Basics" we see in Romans chapter 10. We also see in this chapter that the Gospel isn't new, it must be received, it is universally available, it must be proclaimed, and that it comes with an inheritance.
How comforting to know that what we gain from following Christ far outweighs what we lose!
Who are you currently pursuing with the Gospel?
Why should we be burdened for the lost like Paul is? Because if the Church doesn't witness for Christ, no one else will. God has put us in the lives of specific people to be a light in ways no one else can be!
God is sovereign and just. While we as humans prepare ourselves for destruction, He prepares us for glory.
This truth should eliminate our pride and lead us to worship!
We had a wonderful time this weekend at the Lifeway Women's Symposium!
At the end of Romans 8, we see that God is for us- meaning that He is for our salvation, sanctification, joy, and flourishing.
As followers of Jesus, nothing can separate us from His love! He will meet all of our needs. This truth can protect us from discouragement, and inspire us to stay on mission for making disciples.
What reminders of God's goodness have led you to worship this week?
One of the unavoidable aspects of our lives here on Earth is that we will encounter suffering. Yet, even as we suffer, God's grace is sufficient!
We have not been left alone. The Holy Spirit intercedes for us in prayer, leading us in a way that knows our needs better than we do.
We can be assured that God promises to redeem our suffering. The best is yet to come!

Putting sin to death is a lifelong battle. Does this mean it is a hopeless endeavor? Not at all! As followers of Jesus, the Holy Spirit leads us in resisting sin.
We are adopted, meaning we have a relationship with God that is secure, intimate, and full of assurance. With our adoption comes something we could never earn- an inheritance in Christ. We can serve God with joy knowing He is our good and loving Father!
What a powerful promise! The Holy Spirit is always with us and guiding us. Unlike the generalized despair that condemnation brings, the hope filled conviction of the Holy Spirit brings us closer to Jesus.
There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. How will this truth impact your life this week?
The Gospel is powerful. It transforms, renews, and equips us to battle the sin that makes it's home within us. In Romans 7, Paul reiterates that we are ALL sinners in need of God's grace.
How do we apply this truth? Through honesty (by reflecting on how we are all in need of grace), humility (by running to Jesus when we sin), and worship (by choosing our love for Jesus over sin).

The battle of sin begins in the human heart. In Romans 6, Paul dives into the doctrine of sanctification- identifying 3 tools for the process of spiritual growth. Sanctification is "growing practically into who you have been declared positionally", and to do so we must know the structure of our hearts, know our new identity in Christ, and battle sin.
In Christ, you are set free from the enslaving power of sin. We can battle it and pursue holiness!
"Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ."
Our justification offers us so much. Not only do we have peace with God, but also direct access to Him. With the hope of redemption, we can have joy in all circumstances- for we are assured of God's love, and we are reconciled with Him.
This is the promise and the hope of the Gospel. There is no greater cause to rejoice than this!

"Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness."
In Romans chapter 4, Paul describes how Abraham was saved by God's grace, through faith. What did this saving faith look like? It looked like surrendering to Jesus, entering into a new family, having radical trust in God, persevering, having good reason to believe, and being delivered righteousness.
How can Abraham's example impact your life this coming week?
Church is NOT about a once a week Sunday worship event- but a living, breathing community of people who gather to worship and serve Jesus at home, work and in society. At Hope Creek Church, this kind of community happens in Life Groups! Life Groups are 5-7 couples or 10-12 individuals who meet regularly for the purpose of community, study and support.

God's plan of salvation was not thought up spontaneously. It has been the plan all along! We see the evidence of the Gospel all throughout the Bible- and in Romans 3:21-31, Paul explains that the benefits of it are only available through faith. The Gospel uniquely sets us free from the tyranny of ourselves, and like any other gift that is offered- it must be received.

We ALL need the Gospel. To fully understand why it is good news, we have to understand the depth and severity of our sin. The truth is, our guilty nature is too deep for us to address on our own. However, God is sufficient! While we are lost in our own strength, we can be made new in Christ. How wonderful this truth is!

Throughout the first two chapters of Romans, Paul has made it clear that no one (regardless of ethnicity, religion, or political standing) is innocent before God. We are ALL in need of a Savior!
As followers of Christ, let us strive not to fall into the traps of judgmentalism, gracelessness, arrogance, and presumption. May we instead share love and grace in a manner that reflects how much we have been loved and forgiven by God!
One of the main points we see in the first chapter of Romans is that we have to know the bad news before we can appreciate the good news. What is the bad news? That we have rejected God's rule, revelation, and worship- earning His completely justified wrath.
Thankfully, the good news is that even though we are desperately sinful- God has decided to save us from the ultimate penalty of sin through the sacrifice of his Son, Jesus.
Nobody likes bad news but sometimes it’s necessary to receive good news. As Paul works his way to the good new of the gospel in Romans 3 he first communicates the bad news of human sin and God’s judgement. Join us as we learn why Jesus’ life, death and resurrection is so necessary, freeing, and gracious!

Above all, we remember that ultimately Christ is the victor!

Christianity is not just a "warm and fuzzy" emotional experience! As we continue to read through Ephesians together as a church, we see that to be a useful soldier in God's army, we must start by believing in God's promises. We must also wear the full armor of God, keep the belt of truth tight, and keep on the breastplate of righteousness!
Are you resting on the cornerstone of Jesus? On Sunday we looked at both Ephesians 2:19-22 and 1 Peter 2:4-10 to see how the Church is the temple of God. The implications of this is that as the temple, we are a people who are chosen, shaped, in process, and grounded. Just as importantly, we house the Spirit of God- and are to be reflections of HIs peace, power, and presence!
